A Preschool Where Childhood Isn't Rushed
At Seacoast Waldorf School, we believe early childhood is a precious and foundational stage of life—not something to rush through.
Our preschool environment is designed to feel warm, beautiful, predictable, and welcoming. A steady daily rhythm gives children the security they need to explore with confidence, while imaginative play, storytelling, practical activities, movement, and time outdoors allow them to learn naturally through experience.
Rather than asking young children to sit still and learn in an adult-designed academic environment, we give them opportunities to discover the world through their senses, their bodies, their imaginations, and their relationships.
Nature Is Part of the School Day
For families looking for a nature-based preschool near York, Maine, the connection to the outdoors is an important part of the Seacoast Waldorf experience.
Our five-acre campus borders hundreds of acres of conservation land, giving children room to explore and develop a lasting relationship with the natural world.
The outdoors isn't simply a special activity or occasional field trip. Nature is part of the environment in which children learn and grow.
Waldorf Preschool for Young Children
Our Nursery program serves children ages 2½ through 4 years old, with children eligible based on their age by September 1. Families can choose from 3-, 4-, or 5-day programs, with half-day and full-day options available.
The school day runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon for mornings and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for full days, with Extended Day Care available until 5:30 p.m. Children do not need to be toilet trained to attend Nursery.
Our early childhood program emphasizes:
Imaginative, child-led play
Storytelling, songs, and movement
Outdoor exploration
Practical activities and hands-on experiences
Natural, beautiful classroom materials
Opportunities to develop independence and confidence
A consistent daily rhythm
Warm, responsive relationships with teachers
Time and space for children to simply be children
A Gentle Transition from Home to School
A child's first experience with school matters.
Our teachers guide children through the transition from home to school with patience, warmth, and respect for each child's individual development. The predictable rhythm of the day helps children know what to expect while still leaving plenty of room for discovery and play.
Through everyday experiences—preparing food, creating art, caring for the classroom, playing outdoors, listening to stories, and spending time with friends—children gradually develop the confidence and practical skills they need for the next stage of their education.
