What are you up to?
Currently, I am a ninth grader at Berwick Academy. I attended Seacoast Waldorf School from ages 3 to 11. I am very busy with school work and sports and have a strong network of friends in and out of school. I spent my first two weeks of Summer on a school trip in Spain and love to travel.
What are your plans for the future?
Honestly, I don't know. I enjoy being in the moment and I see my older siblings starting to worry about college and grown-up things and want to stay a kid as long as I can. So, for now, I am busy exploring new clubs and interests and trying out for some leadership roles at school.
What do you miss about SWS?
I miss the strong, tight-knit community. I also miss but try to attend all of the annual events such as Mayfaire. It is nice to have younger siblings at SWS so that I have the opportunity to stay connected. Last year, I even volunteered in the Grade 2/3 classroom with my younger sister, Caitie.
I also really miss the outdoor time and seasons at SWS.
How did your experiences at SWS prepare you for high school and beyond?
While I did struggle with some learning challenges (a formal diagnosis of problems with binocular reading etc.) in early middle school, I have overcome these. And I have also found I have an outlook on things that is unique among my age group - I have a lot of joy, I am good at connecting people of all ages (I am almost better speaking with adults than with my peers), I am well-mannered and respectful and I know my teachers appreciate these qualities. I was even awarded the Berwick Academy Clement award for academic excellence and representing kindness (my Mom made me include this). I also think Waldorf helped me be creative and curious and always learning.
Anything else you would like to share?
To the kids at SWS now, I say enjoy the time you have at SWS! It is a special place with special people. But there is also so much to look forward to - I think the world is pretty great.
