Joy is the Key to Success in School
Does your child love going to school? Many education experts believe that joy is the foundation of great education. Joy fosters curiosity, which leads to discovery and engaged effort in the classroom. At Seacoast Waldorf School, we utilize a hands-on, arts-infused, and experiential approach to academics that brings joy to every student's day, guiding them to become enthusiastic lifelong learners.
Rhythm and routine are essential in our approach. Children learn through experiential methods, both in the classroom and outdoors. Our goal is to fully develop students’ intellectual, social, and emotional capacities through joyful learning.
In early childhood, children engage with nature and simple, natural materials. They create objects that foster confidence and ingenuity. Stories are central to the learning process, nurturing imagination and a love for learning through imaginative play and tradition. Waldorf education honors the natural rhythms of childhood, allowing for an unhurried pace and providing a rich, fulfilling childhood experience. At Seacoast Waldorf School, we prioritize screen-free learning for both early childhood and elementary school.
Our curriculum focuses on developing the whole child, nurturing not just intellect but also emotional well-being and social skills. Fine arts, practical arts, and performance arts are woven into all academic subjects, awakening students' imagination and creativity. Our specialty subjects include world languages, handwork, movement and games, arts, and woodworking. Activities such as drama, painting, drawing, modeling, and coordinated movement are integrated into every aspect of the academic curriculum.
Students participate in a variety of meaningful activities, such as making bread, growing food in a school garden, engaging in real-world experiments, and participating in festivals. These experiences build their connection to the world and their communities. Shared rituals foster a sense of belonging and contribute to the overall joyful atmosphere of our school on a daily basis.
By providing consistent opportunities for meaningful, age-appropriate work and creation, Waldorf education helps build self-esteem and motivation. This engagement empowers our students by enhancing their sense of agency and capabilities.
