Our Story

Located in Southern Maine, near the New Hampshire border, Seacoast Waldorf School draws families from Portsmouth, Kittery, Dover, and beyond for a truly unparalleled Waldorf education in the woods of the American Northeast.

In 1999, the Tidewater School opened as part of the Seacoast Waldorf Association where a former hen house and garden center once stood. The school welcomed students to a multi-age Kindergarten and a first-grade class. By June 2011, the school owned the property they’d been leasing from a generous benefactor and began to plan for expansion. In February 2013, we purchased a larger building a mile down the road, and on September 10th, 2013, students arrived at a new 10,000-square-foot facility on a 5-acre campus known as the Seacoast Waldorf School.

In 2017, the school opened a second building featuring three upper-grade classrooms and a community auditorium. In 2019, Seacoast Waldorf School graduated its first eighth-grade class.
